Cybergrass; Last Train to Clarksville, Video Released

That’s right – if you haven’t seen it – The Grascals have a new video for “Last Train To Clarksville”. It is the first-ever bluegrass music video to premiere on AOL Music / The Boot – and now we can share it with you on YouTube! The Grascals’ version of the classic ’60s pop smash, “The Last Train To Clarksville” premiered worldwide on AOL Music / The Boot July 19th.

“We are always looking for ways to bring our music to the people,” says Grascals’ vocalist Jamie Johnson. “This is an historic day for bluegrass music. With the premiere of our video, this is the first-time ever AOL has premiered a bluegrass artist’s music video and we are so honored to be the first.”

A bright 1966 Dodge van co-stars with the band and is featured throughout the video. Quick close-ups of each Grascal, mixed with fast-frame action, keep the tempo pumping. Director Marcel’s choice of 12 and 48 frames-per-second shooting give the final edit an intentional, stop-motion feel reminiscent of 1960s and ’70s home movies, mixed with modern elements.

The single, the first release from their newest CD, The Famous Lefty Flynn’s, shipped to country radio in June, but is already a proven hit on the bluegrass charts. “Last Train To Clarksville” currently holds the #2 spot on the Bluegrass Music Profiles July Chart and is #20, on the July Bluegrass Unlimited Chart. The Famous Lefty Flynn’s recently charted at #3 on the Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums Chart, #2 on the Bluegrass Unlimited Chart and #1 on the Bluegrass Music Profiles Top 10 National Bluegrass CD Chars.

Known for their seamless harmonies, soaring trios and stellar instrumental talents, The Grascals rose to critical acclaim in 2005 when they won Emerging Artist of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards. This was only the beginning as they catapulted to the top of their genre, being named 2006 and 2007 Entertainers of the Year the following two years. The Boston Globe said, “DJs rhapsodize about The Grascals as though they were the second coming of Bill Monroe. The hype machine is at full throttle, but the Grascals justify every scrap of it… astonishing instrumentalists.”

The Grascals have never sounded sharper as an instrumental unit, with mandolin ace Danny Roberts, fiddler Jeremy Abshire and new banjo player Kristin Scott Benson leading the charge. As a result, The Famous Lefty Flynn’s features cutting-edge modern bluegrass delivered with a deep knowledge of and admiration for the work of the music’s founding fathers. Timely yet timeless, The Grascals make music that is entirely relevant to the here and now, yet immersed in traditional values of soul and musicianship. It’s a unique sound that has earned two of their previous releases, The Grascals (2005) and Long List of Heartaches (2006) Grammy┬« nominations for Best Bluegrass Album.
