New Music Monday: The Grascals – Last Train to Clarksville
The Grascals are no strangers to bringing a perfect marriage of bluegrass and country music. For their latest single, they went back to the roots of pop with the Monkee’s hit song, “Last Train to Clarksville. By adding their special touch, they made the song their own.
Jamie Johnson, Terry Eldridge, and Terry Smith taking the reins on the vocals. They are joined in with Jeremy Abshire on fiddle, Kristin Scott Benson on banjo, and Danny Roberts on mandolin filling in with solo instrumentals with ease.
The IBMA Entertainers of the Year bring the driving bluegrass tune that is simplistic and playful. When the song was originally released by the Monkees, the story behind it was that it was about a guy who recently got drafted and goes to fight in the war. The train is taking him to an army base and he knows that he might die while serving in the war. The song is fitting in the times we are living now.
