A Baby, Banjos, Birthdays and More! The Grascals’ September Update

Hello all,

It looks as though the Grascal finger of fate has pointed in my direction, to send some news and information your way. I pray some of you will find it informative, provocative, entertaining, and hopefully a tad humorous. If you do, Terry Smith (aka Smitty) wrote this update – If you don’t, it was BoBo Botellby, and he’s employed at El Wang’s Dry Cleaning, Push and Press.

Our newest CD The Famous Lefty Flynn’s has been getting positive critical responses and has received impressive chart action as of late – #1 on the BMP and BU bluegrass charts here, and we also got a #1 on the European Country HOTDISC Chart! “Man, they gotta have it!” (Bill Monroe) But what means the most is the response we’ve been getting from you, the fans. That IS the best part of all!

We were nominated for five IBMA awards! It is always a thrill to be in the running or dance, as it were, and it’s an honor just to be nominated. Even if we don’t win, we will be cheering for those who do. Now excuse me while I go clean my revolver.
Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon:

Recently we returned from the MDA Jerry Lewis (OH LADY!) telethon. Jerry wasn’t there to welcome us, but his people, told our people, to tell us he sent his best. The experience there was made extra special when we were introduced to 12 year old Logan Mitzel. Not only is he a fine young man (fighting a battle most of us would crumble under) he presented us with a drawing that he did especially for the Grascals! It was inspiring and it WILL be hung on our bus. And Logan, anytime you want to come along for a ride, all you have to do is show up! But be careful of the lower left bottom bunk, that’s the bunk that made Milwaukee famous!

Live in Louisville:
We also recently opened a show for the amazing Oak Ridge Boys, and what a wonderful experience that was! Joe “Ban-Joey” Bonsall graced our stage with his presence armed with his banjo, as he jammed with Kristin and all the Grascals on “Foggy Mountain Breakdown”! There wasn’t a dry seat in the house! It was something getting to spend time with those guys, they are great!

And last but not least, My granddaughter Allyson Rose Smith is now a little over three weeks old. She is the picture of health and also takes a mighty fine picture I might add. She’s starting to smile a little (mainly at grandpa) and is changing (diapers too) every minute!

My daughter Tara is handling the mother duties like a champ and I am extremely proud of her.

My sons, Tyler and Trevor are putting the Unc in Uncle! They have been great! My mom Hazel (Y’all know Hazel) brother Billy and his family are helping greatly with the spoiling! They all have made me very proud and without a doubt, we are blessed!

I would also like to say “Happy Birthday!” to our manager Kirt Webster. Although he’s only 36, he’s had more birthdays than Methuselah! We love you man! And to our hard working PR gal, the one and only Martha Moore I also say, “Happy Birthday!”

Until we see you down the road, remember we appreciate and could not do this without each and every one of you!

Terry Smith (Aka Smitty)
